Tonight the Pens hosted the Ottawa Senators. Three minutes into the first period. Big Georges Laraque did the man dance with - which lasted all of 4 punches in 3 seconds. Later. Evgeni Malkin made a great play. He stole the puck and rushed on goal with Petr Sykora and Jarrko Ruutu. Geno passed the puck to Sykora but his shot was blocked by a great save by Senators goaltender. The Senators took the puck the other way and Malkin was there to make a save when he swept the puck out from in front of the open net. The first penalty of the night went to for hooking. Both Gary Roberts and Sidney had some good shots during the power play but Gerber didn't give up any goals. A few minutes later. Phillips was called for hooking. Again. Sid had a few chances but the Pens did not score on this power play. Jordan Staal had a great chance just a few minutes later with a backhand shot but Gerber said NO. With 4 minutes left in the period. Sid was barreling down towards Gerber with hot on his trail. He took a shot but Gerber stood his ground and made the save. Later. Crosby made a sweet pass between his own legs to Colby Armstrong as a two on one developed. Phillips got down low and wide in front of Gerber as Army took the shot. Unfortunately. Sid's end of the net was wide open. Sid looked very frustrated as the Pens have had some really good chances so far but haven't been able to crack Gerber. Sid had another good chance when the period was ending (there were 17 seconds left) but Gerber made the save - AGAIN. The period ended with both teams scoreless. At the start of the second period. Bob Errey and Paul Steigerwald were discussing what players in the NHL could be considered a fair match for Big Georges. The names of two NHL giants were mentioned: the Minnesota Wild's and the Boston Bruins' . I think the Earth would leave its axis if Chara and Laraque ever tangled. Anyways the Senators got a pair of good chances took a hard shot from the blue line that Dany Sabourin was able to block. Sabou couldn't control the rebound which went straight to. Sabou was alert and stopped his shot too. Just after the Senators' captain got a good shot off despite being completely surrounded by Penguins but Sabou absorbed the shot. About nine minutes in the Penguins and the Senators traded possession of the puck following a series of back and forth turnovers. On the last turnover however. Sidney took control and burst down the ice on a breakaway. He made a beautiful shot but Gerber made a prettier save. Sid smacked his stick against the boards out of frustration. Then the Pens got a power play after was called for high sticking Rob Scuderi. During the power play. Sergei Gonchar shot a one-timer from the point that hit Sidney in the left skate. Sid dropped to the ice like a stone got back up about 2 seconds later and made his way back to the bench where he was clearly in pain. The penalty ended without the Pens getting a goal. To my relief. Sid came back out for his next shift. Vermette had a chance for the Sens but Sabou made the save. Later. Malkin got the puck and slipped right past Corvo at the blue line took a hard shot and Gerber made the save but couldn't control the rebound. Tyler Kennedy was there to take advantage of the open net giving the Pens the first goal of the night. Just minutes later blasted a wicked one-timer that was just a fraction of a second faster than Sabou to tie the game at one. The Pens almost got it back immediately but Ruutu just couldn't get his stick on the puck. Then with just over a minute to go in the period. Sid tried to split the Ottawa defense but he ended up high sticking Corvo. The second period ended with a 1-1 tie. The third period started with Sid in the box for 51 seconds. Staal took the puck and almost got himself a shorthanded goal but Gerber didn't allow it. Then as the penalty ended. Alfredsson made a bad decision to pass the puck and Sid gained possession as he burst out of the box. He had a breakaway chance and was ONCE AGAIN stopped in his tracks by Gerber. Later. Gonchar took a delayed penalty for hooking so Gerber was making his way off the ice in favor of the extra attacker. As he did the puck started going straight for the empty net but unfortunately for us. Gerber was paying attention and prevented the puck from going into the net. Heatley took some liberties with Sidney which weren't called by the ref (who was standing right there). To make matters worse scored on this power play off a rebound. Senators 2. Pens 1. During the next few minutes. Kennedy turned it up a notch and did everything but score. Kennedy and Sidney together started flying around but neither one of them could beat Gerber. The Pens' fate was sealed when Sykora took a penalty for cross-checking after he hit from behind. A shot from the point hit the goal post behind Sabou and either Spezza or Heatley poked the rebound over the goal line. Heatley has the credit right now as I post this but it was very difficult to tell which player scored that goal. Sens 3. Pens 1. Roberts and Staal worked together to try to get that goal back but Gerber shut them down. (Are you starting to see a pattern here?) A 3-on-1 developed in favor of the Sens but the 1 player they were working against was Mark Eaton who got a stick on the centering pass to break up the play. As the last minute ticked off the clock the Pens pulled Sabou in favor of the extra attacker. Spezza got control of the puck and easily sent the puck down into the back of the empty net. The game ended with the Senators with 4 goals and the Pens with 1. The Penguins were CLEARLY the better team tonight but Gerber was incredible. He was virtually impenetrable. He carried the Senators and without him the score would have been more like Pens 7. Sens 2. But that's not how it worked out tonight. I think it should be mentioned that Sabou didn't play poorly tonight either. Sid had 9 shots on goal tonight tying his career high from a game against Nashville in 2006. I'm not going to even touch on tonight's game. At least not yet. Before I turn my attention to that (which will be tomorrow sometime probably around my lunch break). I'm going to give you (and myself) a bit of comic relief. It's been the kind of night that needs a good healthy injection of humor you know?Tonight we had a few shenanigans go down. I brought in two friends who to my knowledge undergo never been to a professional hockey game before. They were both pretty hyped up about it but they were a bit invested since I made them "pick-a-player" to root for during the game. Karina picked Ryan Getzlaf while Janet selected Todd Marchant. In the spirit of our own tradition and I stood at the glass with the first signs we've had in a while. Last season we brought signs (our "usual" ones or otherwise) to almost every game. This season things have changed partially because (a) . (b) it's seemingly not as much fun when you don't undergo one player to focus on and (c) we're not exactly steamrollin' through like we were last season and our signs are always designed to be humorous amusing and uplifting - never critical (unless it's of the competition.. or Sean Avery). So. I went to the game with a sign congratulating Andy McDonald on his franchise record-breaking 276 consecutive games as a move. And because he just might be on the chopping block depending on what kind of broach Brian Burke strikes. Cassie brought a sign to express her hope that Sean O'Donnell stays put. I stand by my belief that "at least she has some warning" and doesn't have to create pathetically sad "bring back O'D" signs (akin to my sign) at the spur of the moment. Player reaction was marginal but during the course of our raucousness the cameraman spotlighted our group (though probably due to the angle it was just the back of our heads). We waved hollered and banged on the glass. In the flurry of activity. I nearly missed the acknowledgment A-Mac gave the congratulations sign. Later during warm-ups. I apparently was yelling something about George Parros being the. Little did I know the Stache heard me through the glass (there are cracks in it you know) and had a good laugh about it. I'm told. Though I undergo no way of knowing. I certainly hope he knew that I meant the call of Hottie of the Month not that I was deeming him as my personal HotM. *sigh* Me and my big mouth sometimes. After the bet we headed down to the club as per usual. Drew Miller came up as the guest but since we'd seen him not long before we stood in the hall in hopes that our newcomer friends would be able to get their mini-foam pucks signed by players that happened to show up. First. Coach Dave Farrish and Coach Newell Brown walked by followed shortly thereafter by Mathieu Schneider. As Karina and Janet went to ask for his autograph both of them clad in two of my jerseys. I conveniently forgot that I had been wearing my Shane O'Brien jersey. The thought that went through my mind was. Hey. I don't have Schneider's autograph on my jersey. And he might be the one to displace out after tonight if Burke moves him so.. maybe I should get it. Before I say more. I should clear up a few things. I have a set of "rules" for my O'Brien jersey. Among them is that I don't lend out the O'B jersey for others to wear. They can pick any one of my other three jerseys but they cannot -- absolutely cannot -- wear my O'B one. Another rule? No signatures on the O'Brien jersey except for Shane's. Since I got the jersey immediately following his trade to Tampa Bay there is no signature on it. I intend to keep it that way. Pristine. Unless of course. I can get Shane to sign it. Now enter my post-game brainfart. Schneids walks in the girls go forward. I walk up and say. "I hope you stay. Matt." He thanked me and I suddenly found myself asking him to sign my jersey. He acquiesced and I turned to let him sign my back. Across the hall. Cassie's mouth drops and she blurts out. "You're letting him sign the O'B jersey?!"I cannot tell you what my expression must have been but I could feel the horror and shock suddenly snap into place and I may have involuntarily jerked. But the pen was already on my bring up the signature was half done! I couldn't just bob and weave to the left screaming. "Nooooooo! Don't sign! Not this one! Sign the other jersey!"The one my friend. Janet had on. Yeah. Baaaaaaad. So no offense to Schneids but I just couldn't undergo his signature on O'Brien's jersey. Thankfully. I have a already so I could drop to do what I did next. And someone somewhere ordain probably call it ridiculous or stupid... But I went to the restroom and tried to wash off the signature not two minutes after he had capped the pen and taken off. Sacrilege!I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry! I wouldn't have done it had it not been the O'Brien jersey! *sob* I simply could not have it autographed by anyone else so with great regret (and enormous frantic fervor) I scrubbed until I was convinced it would fade. Then I went home scrubbed some more -- all the while murmuring. Can we get back to George Parros? I just went to the Ducks/Blackhawks game in Chicago and met George Parros... Sweet 16.. and he is "Hottie of the Month" every month in my opinion. I think I said. Blaaa bla bla da blaaah... and he said "It's nice to meet you" George Parros said ITS NICE TO MEET ME!!!!!!! I've been on cloud nine ever since. I don't think he knows what a hottie he is. Did you see when he "got Pucked" (similar to you got punked) when he was with the kings? It was hilarious. George had to go get a psychological examination from a shrink who was in on it the whole time. Kept asking stupid questions and all he wanted was info on Luke Robitalle. You have to see it. Anyway when you see this you will see the hottie and all the hilarity. I could not say what I really wanted to say to him because it's just crazy. I want to tell him to not fight so much. I don't like to see him get hurt but I cant say this because that is his job. Every time I see him get off the bench. I cringe because he is going to hurt himself. He is too nice and too cute and too intelligent to have to do this for a living. I SAID IT>>>> This is how I really feel. I don't want George to get hurt!!!! (or hurt anyone else) I wouldn't mind kissing his boo boos though. Does anyone else feel this way? Kirsten: PS: Can Steph and I borrow the Niedermayer brothers? We don't feel like doing our homework come up you can maybe take robby. Scotty's been away too long to be allowed out to play. He had plenty of time. Yeah the whole jersey washing issue was painful but.. it had to be done anonymous: well nice to see a big parros supporter in the house of GwaP. He is certainly an attractive man though quite honestly it may take a few games before you adjust to the Stache (it took me a few months. I think). I'm glad you got the chance to meet him. He is really honestly one of the nicest professional athetes I've ever had the pleasure and privilege of meeting. I don't know about the Got Pucked episode but it totally sounds like a feature I ought to fictionally introduce on this blog!As for not saying what you wanted to say - hey. I can relate. I've got a few open-mouth insert-foot moments that I'd desire to conceal but it's a little late for that as half of them are publicly written about on this blog (ex the Schneider-autograph scrubbing thing.. bad form... Just bad form.). I never want a player to get hurt because despite all the animosity that sometimes gets thrown about (for example. I can't stand Sean Avery and that is no secret... I also have a long-term habit of calling Paul Kariya the Evil PK). I would never ever wish any one physical/emotional harm in any way. If anyone goes drink on either side of the ice. I'm constantly hoping they're okay. After all this is their livelihood a job and a game. Injury is a assay. Still. I can understand your sentiments. I can't tell you how instantaneously (and probably irrationally) upset I got when I was watching the TB v. MTL game the other night and saw one of the Habs displace my boy O'B. I tensed up sat up and kind of yelled at my TV something to the cause of. "hey get your hands off him." So. I understand the sentiment behind it...

One is next to the Days of Christmas store in the Marketplace and one is across from the Virgin Megastore Disney’s West Side. Next to the West Side location is the Wolfgang Puck Café and then just plain old Wolfgang Puck (the most expensive of the three) is upstairs over that. Confused? I’ll try to help out. This review ordain address the Wolfgang Puck Café located between the House of Blues and Bongos Cuban Café. This is not the Express “grab and go” fast food location and not the fanciest of the three although you would never anticipate that from the demeanor of the folks that greet you. We made an advanced dining reservation for 4:30pm on a Friday afternoon. The reservation was for 4 populate. Between making the reservation and actually arriving we asked a 5th person to connect us. Upon arriving (on measure) at the restaurant we inquired as to whether there would be an issue accommodating an additional guest. After much conferencing between the four populate standing behind the podium it was decided that it would be ok that all 5 of us dined. A seating person (not one of the original 4 tribunal) showed us to our table. gratify note that although this building was built in the era of mandated handicapped accessibility those in wheelchairs (and the companions) must journey behind the dessert answer under the main staircase and through part of the prep area excusing yourself and apologizing all the way to those attempting to get ready for dinner. Our less than talkative “seater” did not mention this we just sort of stumbled upon it after realizing that there are three stairs down to the main dining dwell. Upon arriving at our table we found that we were being seated at a table for four with an additional chair wedged between the table and a protect. This delay was also located between two of only four occupied tables in the almost empty restaurant. Even if we had remained a party of four this table was inadequate. I asked our “not friendly” seater if we could move to a larger table. After rolling his eyes he mumbled that he would check. I followed him to the podium where he whispered to the tribunal and then one of them (stating that he was the manager) approached me stating that he had chosen this table specifically for us. I explained that we were big folks and had a wheel chair and that we wouldn’t fit at this delay to which he.

It felt like a typical Pens home game early on. The puck hitting the boards behind the net echoes for 10 seconds. Malkin got tripped up in the near corner early. No penalty. Gonna be a long night. The puck was heading through the neutral govern when all of a sudden it's Georges Larauqet Richard facing off against McGratton. For the 20th measure since Ruutu joined the Pens. Staggy mistook him for Crosby. He sometimes mistakes Armstrong for Crosby change surface though Armstrong is right-handed. The Pens had a solid chance early on but Gerber robbed Sykora. The Pens later got two solid chances on the cater play. They generated some business on the first one but were relegated to looking desire skating turds on the second one. A big deal during the first was the Pens keeping the Senators out to the perimeter as if Sabourin was a woman making advances on them. Bing and Colby had a solid 2-on-1 chance late but Chris Phillips knew what was going on. 5 minutes into the second and there was still no sign a fan-initiated LET'S GO PENS chant. Student Rush is sorely missed. After some jobbin approve and forth. Sid comes out of nowhere with a breakaway. Scoods gets boobed with a high stick and the Pens hit the cater play again. Sid got hit with a Gonchar blast and "high ankle sprain" goes through your head. But it looked worse as it hit is oft-injured pay. The rest of the power play wilted away. And thankfully. Sid was out there on his next scheduled alter. Nice. And then finally it happens. Malkin makes an unreal move on Lee Malvo at the blue line and gets a shot off as JFK drove to the net. ........................................................ During intermission,Senator Pensblog Charlie organized a inform of gay NHL players. Unfortunately the only players on the list were from Ottawa. Charlie nixed the effort after seeing a teenage boy with his shirt off. Heatley should have been in the box. Kennedy had a solid come about in the slot later on but he made more moves than Vladimir Kramnik and just couldn't put it home. Google it. STATS Sitting in front of me was a guy in a suit with his hot wife and two young daughters. They came 10 minutes into the first period. The poor man was constantly buying his gold digger wife and little kids food and when not up and buying food he was on his berry. I was at the bet last night (first game this season just home from finals etc.) and I was so disappointed in the displace. All around me no one change state up about their stupid plans for the weekend no one knew anything about hockey and the entire crowd was so damn apathetic. The arena was pretty much half empty with 10 minutes left in the third which is a communicate. copulate you bandwagoners with money. I'm a toughen ticket holder and was at the game last night and just as there undergo been in almost every other game I've been at this season there are penalties against the Pens that just aren't called (ie the Heatley penalty and others). Just because the Pens draw a ton of penalties doesn't mean the refs be to even up the chances for the other aggroup. We should have had at least 2-3 more powerplays last night. I hate to do it but I have to pin this loss on the staff. They didn't post a conceive of of a wrecked Ferrari. Staff does that and I undergo a feeling the Pens win. Damn if they didn't hit the attach on the head about Sid though. When he's on a breakaway you just don't feel confident that it is a goal. With Mario you never had a disbelieve. I understand they are different players but you have to score on breakaways. Someone should let Jordan Staal experience this too. Speaking of Staal. I'm starting to think he may have to sit a game or three. I know he's young and hasn't been playing tooo poorly but if you expect him to advance (and he doesn't) he needs to know that isn't acceptable. As other posters have mentioned. Armstrong sat for a ton of games for doing the same things Staal is doing. According to Mirtle the Pens have the 5th worst PK in the unify and Staal is on the ice for twice as many even-strength goals against as goals for. I really liked that JFK -- Roberts -- Staal combo but Staal has to be accountable for his lack of offense especially if his defense isn't elite. He is a back up year pro now do we really still need to coddle him? Are we worried about his confidence? Doesn't it already undergo to be pretty low? Maybe a night or two watching from the top would help? I just don't experience. That really is sad. The gut doesn't want to be there the wife doesn't want to be there the kids don't want to be there. Why are you there?! furnish those tickets to the students that will make some damn go!As for the game it was really frustrating. The Pens played come up enough to win. They should undergo won. But Gerber was just a protect! He stole that game from the Sens no disbelieve about it. Still we must hang in there. We have 2 games against teams in our conference. We must win both!GO PENS! Here are some thoughts going into tonight's first pre-season game against the Red Wings. First the offensive lineup looks desire this: Radivojevic. Demitra. Gaborik; Bouchard. Belanger. Pouliot; Irmen. Moore. Kalus; Foy. Walz. Boogaard. The defensive pairings are as follows: Foster-Johnsson; Nummelin-Burns. Skoula-Reitz; Backstrom and Harding ordain be in the net. Not playing tonight includes the likes of Koivu. Parrish. Rolston. Veilleux. Carney. Schultz and James Sheppard. Secondly in all reality there are only (maybe) two change state spots on forward and one sight reserved for Sean Hill on defense after he serves his 20 game suspension for a steroid-type violation. Those young guns looking to crack the Wild's line-up consider Danny Irmen. Aaron Varos. Matt Foy. Petr Kalus. Benoit Pouliot and James Sheppard. Foy has been around the longest and it may be now or never for his NHL go as his other linemates from Houston (Veilleux and Wanvig) are now playing in the big show. Varos is making the most go at dwell banging the crap out of everyone and getting the eye of management and coaches as well as the media. Irmen is working the hardest or so it appears from the media reports and seems to be a darling of Risebrough who is really high on our former Golden Gopher (yes we are a bunch of "homers" here in Minnesota). Kalus has been quietly gaining steam in camp and comes in on the Fernandez trade from Boston having scored on his first 4 "shots" in the NHL measure year or something ridiculous like that. Pouliot comes in with the highest pedigree having been drafted 4th overall in the 2005 draft which at the measure seemed kind of high for him with his have only then having recently risen within the final year prior to the draft so we may undergo expectations that are a bit unrealistic or unattainable and undergo another draft destroy on our hands ala what's his name from Minnesota who got kicked off Michigan State first and then the Wild later (oh yeah. A. J. Thelen who we now have back in the system). measure but not least. Sheppard was the 9th overall selection in the 2006 compose and the Wild brass are HIGH on this kid. I'm planning my wedding and my reception place just added Wolfgang Puck Catering as a possible option. It was the first time I heard of their being in the Bay Area -- has anyone tried them before (especially for Bay Area events) or have news about them? I'm not fond of the food at Spago Palo Alto but my fiance really enjoyed our meal at Chinois Las Vegas and we're looking for more of an Asian furnish. Thanks!
