"Hockey Mom" posted by ~Ray

All around the world Canadians are known as being well-mannered polite peacekeeping beer drinking hockey fanatics. I desire to think that with beer drinking being the exception (except for Jeremy who likes a cold one every now and again) our family is a good representation of these Canadian stereotypes. Emily and I have never been interested in playing the game though we both do like to watch. The males in our family however are completely enthralled with the game though. One of Gabe’s very first words was ‘hockey’…I think it was his fifth word? Something like that. He has a little hockey stick and plastic puck that he plays with. He recognizes the hockey equipment aisle at the local superstore. Levi knows the name of the local hockey hero and points out his jersey hanging in the mall. Jeremy plays rec hockey with a bunch of dads on Sunday nights. We’re building an ice rink in the back yard and Jer claims to get a ‘warm fuzzy truly Canadian feeling’ when he sees the kids playing on an outdoor rink…and I kind of know what he means. This year we entered a new world of hockey-dom…Josiah joined a league and is now playing on a team. I am officially a ‘hockey mom’. I don’t know about in the States but hockey moms have a reputation around here. Rather similar to the mama bear hockey moms have a reputation of being a little psycho about their kids hockey. I’m all about it being fun and character building so I sincerely hope the psycho hockey mom rep doesn’t apply to me. We go to practices cheer him on at games we’re doing a tournament this pass we inform at the arena and I’ve even learned how to put on hockey equipment. Last night though when my husband and Josiah walked in the door after practice. I knew that it was official. There was my husband in his change pants shirt and tie with a big round badge stuck onto the long black wool dress coat that he uses for work. This is the picture on the badge:Isn't he just adorable!? I want a badge too!! Maybe I'll get one made.. after all. I do have a psycho hockey mom reputation to uphold. I know nothing about hockey but you're RIGHT about moms and their kids.(My son wrestled for years and the wrestling moms are WAY psycho too!)Your boy is a little picture of you. (or is it your husband? never seen him) Wife; mother;lover of art music theatre dance and fine wine; addicted to books and coffee; I like quilts and Ikea pottery and abstract expressionism artisan bakeries and funky coffee shops. Old World and 21st century.. this is my life.

It really wasn't as bad as it looked. There we were my son and I running around Lake Calhoun. He's 2. For the preserve. Thoughts of cheering him on at cross-country meets on fold go days certainly never change surface crossed my mind. When we realized he'd grown 3-4 inches and gained exactly zero pounds in the last six months we never even considered that he might be developing a distance runner's physique. We don't change surface let him head the ball when he's playing soccer. At least we're not teaching him how to skate.
